Self Sabotage: a Different Perspective

Have you ever made a decision to do something that you really wanted to do, and then life just keeps knocking you down left and right?  Whether its traffic not cooperating with you, you are running late, even though you SWEAR you started getting ready on time.  You straight up forget about a deadline, forgot about a bill...   I'm sure we could all go on...

We have ALL been there, we know how it feels and hate it.  This article is inspired by one of my clients.  She has made a firm decision to change  some aspects of her life just do not work anymore.  She decided to work with me to help get her life, especially the aspects that relate to money, to a state that she wants.  And after about two weeks her life has been flipped upside down.  Though external circumstances and also her own doing.  But this is not her fault.  She is calling it self sabotage.  And she's right, that is what's going on.  But not exactly in the way that she thinks it is happening.

When we commit to change, whether we take on a project or goal that we really want, or we decide to work with someone else (like a coach) to assist changing aspects  we wish to change, self sabotage is a friend that we don't really want to see.  Unfortunately this is a natural part of change.  When we take on a goal, project or commitment this is a threat to our subconscious aka ego.  Our ego wants everything to stay exactly the same the way it is comfortable.  Although we may not be comfortable our ego is, and that means safety.  So while our logical mind may have a different opinion of what safety is; to our subconscious/ego safety means familiar.

I too have gone through this, and I know I will go through this again.  We all have personal limits of what is "ok" or safe to us, as we approach those limits just like an electric fence, life will let us know.

SO, WHAT in the BLEEP do I do???  You may be asking.  It will be different for each of us.  But essentially take a step back, love yourself up, and get back on that horse.  Try and try again.  I know how frustrating it is when you get hit with one thing after the other, it makes you question if you are going in the right direction.  And when it comes to personal evolution, I can tell you that you are.

For some specific ideas of what to do in these situations, here is what I have done that has worked for me.  Try out the one that suits you in the moment.

Take a bath
Go for a walk
Seek out a beautiful view
If possible go to a body of water
Work out
Smell something delicious

Take some deep breaths - check out Wim Hoff and his breath work.  In the situations where I don't have time to do some of the other ideas, i.e. like when I'm working I'll go to the bathroom, sit down, close my eyes and do 10 deep breaths, as deep as I can possibly do.

If things are really rough, you might cry.  Cry, let it out, that is a really good thing.  When you cry you release so much resistance.

Drink more water, on days that are just not going well, I try to increase my water intake, forcing me to pee/take a break more often.

As Abraham Hicks would say, "hang on it'll be over soon."  Because I have been on this journey of personal expansion intentionally for 7 years now, when I have my bad days.  I take a deep breath and remember her words, I let go and become accepting that today might just be a bad day, but it will be over soon.  This almost always leads to something magical happening.

Write

Fake laugh - I love this one, I always end up truly laughing, do it with somebody else and you will be rolling on the floor.

Have a heart to heart with yourself in the mirror, say what you would say to your best friend.

If you can scream.  Scream therapy is amazing.

I would love to hear your ideas or solutions when you are having a rough day or moment in life.  Email me at creativelyjessica@gmail.com or comment below!

When you have given yourself a breather get back up and try again.  Continue with your goal, commitment or working with your coach.  If you don't you are letting your ego win, to keep you where you were inside of your old limitations; you are letting the self sabotage win.  One day you will realize you love the shift that has occurred, the clouds will part, life will just somehow seem to be a little easier, or a lot easier.  And you'll be amazed with how much progress you have made.

Love, Jessica

Quick, Healthy & Easy

Hello Vegan Gluten Free Enthusiasts!

I'd like to share a super easy and healthy meal to cook in about 20 minutes.

All you need is
Rice
Mushrooms, Broccolini, Leeks, & Garlic (because I can't eat without garlic!)

Other variations: Chicken and fish would go great with this meal, replace the rice with Cauliflower to eat Paleo or Keto (I don't know the metrics of what makes a meal Keto, but you do ;)

The quantity depends on how many people will eat and how much each one eats, personally I always have to cook for two because I eat that much!

For cooking rice, I cook it the Brazilian way, so I add the quantity of rice, garlic and olive oil fry it a little then add the water.  When cooking rice always add double the amount of water to rice.  So for example one cup of rice, two cups of water.  Once you've added the water, as soon as it boils, turn down the heat to a low simmer (for those of you that have an electric stove, about a "2" is good).  When there is no more water, but the rice isn't burnt yet, its ready.  And don't worry if you burn the pan, for my first ten years of cooking I would burn the rice every time.  To clean it, you just let the pan soak.

Delicious Alternative: For the rice, I used half water, and half vegetable broth & white wine.  Try it :)

Carb Free: Use Riced Cauliflower instead :)

Then I cooked the mushrooms and garlic in a pan first (these two take a bit longer to cook, and not as delicious on the raw side)... A minute or two before the rice was ready I added the chopped up broccolini and leeks.  I like my veges on the crunchy side, so really I'm just heating them up.  Season to taste.  Since I already had an Italian theme going I used the "Everyday Seasoning" from Trader Joe's.

This meal should cost under $5 per person.

And done.
Bon appetite!
